Remember, Remember the 5th of November
Yesterday I remained silently hoping for a miracle.
It was the 5th of November and I really wished something would change in our lives.
Nothing happened! What a shocker!!! In these days nothing ever happens.
Life may treat me well but I am the first one seeing that something needs to change.
We are ruled and led by incompetent, corrupt and mediocre people. The planet is falling apart as are our finances and economy. I see common people and the sad and weary looks on their faces, begging for a change, begging for help. Nothing happens. Nothing changes, well, not for the better, anyway.
I was hoping that someone remembered the 5th of November. That someone evoked Guy Fawkes, rightly said to be the only man to enter the British Parliament with honest intentions.
Maybe next year. Who knows? We might wake up until then.

New Shoes
I’ve recently bought two pairs of suede monkstraps.
A pair of KG by Kurt Geiger Cadfael tan double monkstraps, pictured above and below.
As well as a pair of Fly London Cosh sand single buckle monks.
I had to buy them online because I just could find them anywhere and I haven’t had the opportunity of visiting London recently. But the surprise came when I received the shoes. They were both made in Portugal.
My question is: why can’t I buy these products in Portugal? Especially since Fly London is a Portuguese brand.
You would say that it’s all a marketing and branding thing. I agree, but it’s also a goddamn ridiculous thing.
How can you launch and project Portuguese fashion/design if you don’t start with your home market? Look at all the major Italian and Spanish brands. They started at home first and then proceeded to take over the fashion world.
By the way, the shoes are great. Beautiful and very confortable.

Beatlemania
The recent reissue of “The Beatles” complete discography, remastered and revamped, caused a little bit of frenzy amongst the fans and general music lovers.
Because “The Beatles” are very dear to me (maybe my all-time favorite band, up there with Brian Wilson’s “The Beach Boys”), it is time to present my own selection of Beatles favorites: albums, tracks and members.
Here are my choices:
Top 5 albums:
1. The White Album
2. Rubber Soul
3. A Hard Day’s Night
4. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
5. Revolver
Top 10 tracks: (this is a difficult one!)
1. In my life (from “Rubber Soul”)
2. The long and winding road (from “Let it Be”)
3. I am the walrus (from “Magical Mystery Tour”)
4. A day in the life (from “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”)
5. Here comes the sun (from “Abbey Road”)
6. Cry baby cry (from “The White Album”)
7. Eight days a week (from “Beatles for Sale”)
8. Got to get into my life (from “Revolver”)
9. I should have known better (from “A Hard Day’s Night”)
10. Blackbird (from “The White Album”)
Favorite “Beatle”:
1. John Lennon
2. Ringo Starr
3. Stuart Sutcliffe (the 5th “Beatle”)
4. George Harrison
5. Paul McCartney

Drawing Fashion
Have you ever seen a blog about fashion without any photos?
Well, the “Unknown Hipster” is a fashion blog that replaced photos by drawings. And they’re pretty damn funny.
I love the ones where the author is standing next to Karl Lagerfeld.
Chuck
I’ve recently (re)watched “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”, the first movie directed by George Clooney, based on the controversial autobiography of Chuck Barris.
I believe the movie is a very accomplished premiere for Clooney, well acted and screened. It definitely helps to have Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,…) writing the screenplay.
But the thing that struck me this time was the larger than life, spaced out, character of Chuck Barris (played in the movie by the very talented Sam Rockwell). Wouldn’t you be intrigued by a pop songwriter, tv show creator/producer/host and alleged CIA hitman?
I’ll leave you with a clip from the “Gong Show” (perhaps the most celebrated tv show created by Barris), as well as footage from a screen test of Sam Rockwell playing Barris.
As a treat enjoy Freddy Cannon performing the Chuck Barris hit “Palisades Park”. The track is on the movie soundtrack which is worth a listen.

The Next Big Thing?
“Portugal. The Man” is another great band coming from the US. They seem to be flourishing these days.
The band has been around for awhile, but this latest record (The Satanic Satanist) is definitely their best.
The name is a bit tacky. The music, on the other hand, is amazing. Like a cross between early Bowie and Neil Young on acid.
Check out their Myspace page.

Sadly, and ironically, they are not coming to Portugal, but only Barcelona and Madrid. Those Spanish have all the fun. Maybe I can catch them in Brussels. It’s about time I get something nice from that dreaded city.

Guy's Wisdom
Guy Ritchie recently gave an interview to Esquire US, which you can find here.
Interesting reading, although, sometimes, a little boring.
The thing that really captivated me was a set of valuable rules by which Ritchie lives is life.
Rule #1: “You have to be comfortable being uncomfortable.”
Rule #2: “It's okay to have beliefs, just don't believe in them.”
He’s not stupid at all. I can easily relate to these rules. I think everyone can, in one way or the other, and I really believe they can help you go through some difficult situations.
Apparently, he had a third rule that the journalist wouldn’t publish.
Maybe we should figure that one out by ourselves.

Current Obssession: Military Look
I can't get enough of this military look. Maybe it's because we are living through pretty rough times.
Last month alone I bought a vintage original M51 US parka (I'm a mod again!!!!), a vintage Swedish parka, an M65 US jacket, a desert camouflage hooded jacket and a pair of Fallen camo slip-on sneakers (Vans style). All this in addition to my O'neill baggy camo shorts, bought in Barcelona.

Sing (and Dance) Your Heart Out
Enjoy!
